Process
Design making process/ Research:
When first being introduced to the Microscope project it was bit of a shocker since we were told at a time where we needed it finished by the next week. But once we chose our groups (Mandalyn, Mia, Emilio and I) and began to decide what we were designing it became much more relaxing. After, we found which microscope template we wanted to create (all templates are on the slideshow to the right). Then we had to gather materials we needed and the elements we would add to it on the document that my teacher would look at. |

Design considerations:
At first this project was a competition with my entire team but we were at the point in the end of the project (with exhibition out of the way) where we didn't have time to have the contest. In the beginning we thought that the template we chose gave us all the essential pieces we needed but it turned out we didn't receive them all. Besides not having all the pieces, the long pieces of wood wasn't letting us see through the lenses so we had to restart on our microscope template. The image on the right doesn't have the long pieces anymore. And to add a little flare, we chose to add the HTH logo letters since we were going to present these to the other High Tech High schools. My group also decided to paint the microscope, blue and yellow (representing HTH colors) with a coat of glitter on the top to make it sparkle.

Flaws:
Since we did have to restart on our template which included resizing some pieces, it took a while in getting back the actual laser cutter template to remake our microscope. And with exhibition being in a few days and my team preparing for it, we needed our microscope to be completed. But in the end we were able to construct, paint and model our microscope for exhibition with a working lense.

Photographs:
Since this is Biology class, my teacher Will, had us take a picture that is of nature. In order to test our microscope we needed a test subject. So my group took a picture of a leaf. As you see on the right. The we put it under the microscope lense and the results were....(right below). It was interesting viewing the difference in how something looks up close than from far away. Not only that but now I have a much more better interest in how my perspective lets me view situations, objects or anything in this matter. |
